Recreational Basketball Information

Welcome to Recreational ("House") Basketball 2019-2020.

Lincolnshire Sports Association offers recreational basketball leagues for boys and girls in 1st through 10th grades. We also offer a short kindergarten program run by Play Hard Hoops.  The information below applies to the first through tenth grade league.  Note that we will only hold a 9th/10th grade league if there is enough interest generated.

The recreational basketball program is dedicated to developing all aspects of the player’s game and is designed to teach and develop fundamental basketball skills in a fun and instructional environment. All children are given the opportunity to play and learn, with the emphasis on sportsmanship and becoming “athletes first, winning second.”

All recreational league practices and games are held in the District 103 school gyms (Sprague, Half Day, or Daniel Wright). Location largely depends on the player's grade.  However, practices and games may be in different gyms.

The season runs from late November through March and consists of 1 practice during the week and 1 weekend game.

Games can either be on Friday evenings or Saturday mornings/early afternoon.  This year, games will be played on December 13/14, January 10/11, January 17/18 (MLK weekend), January 24/25, January 31/February 1, February 7/8, February 14/15 (President's Day weekend), February 21/22, March 6/7 and March 13/14.

Exact game times will not be determined until after registration is complete.

This year, our divisions will be as follows with GENERAL game times in parenthesis.  Note that exact game times will not be finalized until November and games could fall out of the range stated in the parenthesis.  The number of players and teams will influence game times.  Each game will be roughly an hour long.

Kindergarten (2PM-4PM Saturdays)

1st coed (12 noon-2PM Saturdays)

2nd/3rd boys (9AM-11AM Saturdays)

2nd/3rd girls (11AM-1PM Saturdays)**

4th/5th girls (11AM-1PM noon Saturdays)

4th/5th boys (6:30PM-8:30PM Fridays)

6th/7th/8th girls (9:30AM-11:30AM Saturdays)

6th boys (10:30AM-12:30PM Saturdays)

7th/8th boys (8:30AM-10:30AM Saturdays)

**We will plan on having a 2nd/3rd girls division.  However, this division will only happen if at least 12 girls register and 2 parent coaches volunteer.  If we don’t get those numbers, then the 2nd/3rd grade girls will join the 2nd/3rd boys to form a co-ed league.

Prior to the start of registration and while registration is ongoing, we are unable to determine exact practice days and times. This will be determined once registration is complete in mid-November. As part of the registration process, you will be able to indicate which days your child can and cannot practice. This will help us place your child on a team that practices on a day that works with your schedule. We will make every effort to accommodate each child's schedule. However, at this time, we cannot make specific guarantees of practice days or times.

Space for house practices is very limited. We can only use the District 103 gyms when they are open and available to us. Because they are not available until 7:00 PM on weeknights (for Sprague and HD) and 6:30 PM (for DW), practices for basketball will tend to start later than other sports. This is the case for all ages, including 1st and 2nd graders. We make every effort to have the younger children practice earlier.

Also, we will hold practices on every weeknight, including Fridays, if necessary. We understand that Friday practices are not ideal for many, but since we have limited space we may have to hold some practices on Friday nights.

Thank you for your understanding.

We will once again have David Adelman of Play Hard Hoops conducting clinics during practices. For players in grades 1-3, David will conduct three clinics during the season during their regularly scheduled practice.

LSA basketball is an all-volunteer organization. We are always in need of volunteers to serve as Commissioner, Head Coach, or Assistant Coach.  Our teams should ideally be led by parent-coaches, and we appreciate the contribution of everyone who is able to volunteer. You can easily volunteer when you register your child, or by contacting our Directors.  If we aren’t able to find enough parent-volunteers to coach our teams, then we turn to high school volunteers to coach our kids in order for our program to run.  If a team is coached by high school students, we are requiring a parent from that team to be the team parent and will be responsible for bathroom breaks, ensuring all the kids on the team is picked up, and covering for the high school coaches if they have a conflict.
