Recreational Basketball Information

Welcome to Recreational ("House") Basketball 2017-18.

Lincolnshire Sports Association offers recreational basketball leagues for boys and girls in 1st through 8th grades. We will also offer a short kindergarten program. Details for this program can be found in the "Kindergarten Basketball" tab on this website. The information below, for the most part, does not apply to the kindergarten program.

The recreational basketball program is dedicated to developing all aspects of the player’s game and is designed to teach and develop fundamental basketball skills in a fun and instructional environment. All children are given the opportunity to play and learn, with the emphasis on sportsmanship and becoming “athletes first, winning second.”

All recreational league practices and games are held in the District 103 school gyms (Sprague, Half Day, or Daniel Wright). Location largely depends on the player's grade, however practices and games may not be in the same gym.

The season runs from December through March and consists of 1 week night practice and 1 weekend game.

All games will be on Saturdays. This year, games will be played on December 16, January 13 (Martin Luther King weekend), 20 and 27; February 3, 10, 17 (President's Day weekend) and 24; and March 10 and 17.

Exact game times will not be determined until after registration is complete. However, as a guide, please see the tab labeled "Game Times and Basic Rules" for the times from the 2016-2017 season. We will make every effort to keep the same or close to the same times as last year for planning purposes. However, we cannot guarantee the times will remain exactly the same, so please consider this in your planning. Friday night games are also a slight possibility for older age groups.

Prior to the start of registration and while registration is ongoing, we are unable to determine exact practice days and times. This will be determined once registration is complete in mid- November. As part of the registration process, you will be able to indicate which days your child can and cannot practice. This will help us place your child on a team that practices on a day that works with your schedule. We will make every effort to accommodate each child's schedule. However, at this time, we cannot make specific guarantees of practice days or times.

Space for house practices is very limited. We can only use the District 103 gyms when they are open and available to us. Because they are not available until 6:00 or 7:00 on weeknights (depending on the school), practices for basketball will tend to start later than other sports. This is the case for all ages, including 1st and 2nd graders. We make every effort to have the younger children practice earlier, but that is not always possible and younger children may have practices that start at 7:00. Specifically, there is a very good chance 1st grade players will have 7:00 practices.

Also, we will hold practices on every weeknight, including Fridays, if necessary. We understand that Friday practices are not ideal for many, but since we have limited space we may have to hold some practices on Friday nights.

Thank you for your understanding.

We will once again have David Adelman of Play Hard Hoops conducting clinics during practices. For players in grades 1-4, David will conduct three clinics during the season during your regularly scheduled practice. For players in grades 5-8, we will not be conducting clinics during practices, but we will be offering additional clinics/open gym time in addition to regular practices, for an additional fee. Details on the times and days of these additional clinics will be available in November, after regular practices are scheduled. Please keep checking the website for further information.

LSA basketball is an all-volunteer organization. We are always in need of volunteers to serve as Commissioner, Head Coach, or Assistant Coach, Our teams are led by parent-coaches, and we appreciate the contribution of everyone who is able to volunteer. You can easily volunteer when you register your child, or by contacting our Directors.  Simply put, if we do not have enough volunteers for an age group, we will be unable to offer house basketball to these children. Please consider helping out.
